Elon Musk smiles as he hosts Saturday Night Live

The complicated love affair between the Tesla CEO and the digital currency market just took another twist on Thursday after Elon Musk referred to dogecoin in an early-morning tweet.

“How much is that Doge in the window?” he wrote on his platform of choice.

Those eight words alone sent the value of the meme currency up 11%. Just before 7 a.m. ET, the currency was worth approximately 40 cents, a mere twenty minutes after that tweet was released.

Musk’s fascination with the currency is well known. He’s reportedly involved in streamlining the digital currency, but he has also described it as a “hustle.”

Yesterday, the entire crypto market suffered large losses before regaining some of them.

What do you think about Musk’s near-obsession with dogecoin and bitcoin? Reply back and let me know whether you think crypto will continue to take off, or whether it’s a fad that you simply don’t care about.
