Did the Taliban just kill a journalist’s relative in a door-to-door manhunt?

According to officials, the Taliban is in the midst of a manhunt in Kabul, searching for journalists or others with ties to Afghanistan’s previous government. Apparently, this led to the killing of a reporter’s family member. The militant group had previously promised not to engage in such behavior.

Officials with Deutsche Welle, a broadcaster in Germany, said that some of their other reporters have also had their homes raided since the takeover.

“We expect both individuals previously working with NATO and U.S. forces and their allies, alongside with their family members to be exposed to torture and executions,” said Chrisitan Nellemann, who is the RHIPTO Norwegian Center for Global Analyses chief.

This comes as reports surface that the State Department is demanding hefty, $2,000 payments for Americans to make the flight back home.

How a “home intruder” is actually the lover of the homeowner’s wife

Frank Reeves woke with a start last weekend as his wife said that someone was breaking into the house.

Reeves grabbed a weapon and ended up in a shootout with the suspect, a man he later learned had been romantically involved with his spouse, Tracy. Not only that, but Tracy had been doing drugs with this man, Michael Amacker, and she’d been allowing him to stay in the couple’s Alabama home.

“I’ve still yet to figure out how somebody can be staying in your house and you not know it,” officials said. “It’s somewhat bizarre.”

Apparently, Tracy Reeves and Amacker had been on meth as the situation unfolded, and officials are investigating whether a murder-for-hire scheme may have been at play.

“Another thing with meth,” the official said. “people that are on meth, not only do they have paranoia, they can’t keep their mouth shut. So if there was some kind of diabolical plan, it is very possible Amacker has told some other people.”

Earlier this week, two naked Seattle men apparently got into an altercation that left one of them in the hospital and the other one unresponsive, police say.

According to witnesses, one of the men stabbed the other while they were on the sidewalk.

When authorities responded to the scene, the victim had been transported to a nearby hospital by a bystander.

The alleged suspect was found slumped near an apartment building with a neck wound that officials believe was self-inflicted.

He had lost a great deal of blood by the time authorities arrived.

Earlier this month, a 17-year-old was racing Hamlet Arseni Aghajanyan through Burbank streets. The younger teen was speeding around in a Mercedes while Aghajanyan was driving a Kia.

At the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Andover Drive, they crashed into a Volkswagen, killing 19-year-old Natale Maghaddam, 20-year-old Jaiden Johnson, and comedian Tony Baker’s 21-year-old son, Cerian Baker.

“This tragic and avoidable event was caused by subjects racing vehicles and driving recklessly at very high rates of speed,” officials said.

Three students were hurt in this high school parking lot shooting

What South Carolina officials had originally dubbed a drive-by shooting was no such thing. On Wednesday, a 14-year-old fired at three high school students in the back parking lot. The victims each sustained non-life-threatening wounds, authorities say.

The violence broke out on Wednesday, after the third day of classes at the high school.

Officials said teachers, who had been trained on how to handle active shooters, were able to contain the situation.

“We plan for these things, hoping we never have to use them,” the school superintendent said.

The sheriff added: “Because of their quick actions and different things they did out there at the school today, I believe that [they] saved lives and [kept] other students [from] being injured.”

What do we know about the shooter and the charges he now faces?

How is the Taliban breaking their commitments to the U.S. right now?

In what is likely a surprise to no one, the Taliban appears to be reneging on their promise not to block Afghan access to the Kabul International Airport, officials say.

“We have seen reports that the Taliban, contrary to their public statements and their commitments to our government, are blocking Afghans who wish to leave the country from reaching the airport,” said Wendy Sherman, who is the deputy secretary of state. “[US military officials are] engaging directly with the Taliban to make clear that we expect them to allow all American citizens, all third-country nationals and all Afghans who wish to leave, to do so safely and without harassment.”

Her message follows an alert form Kabul’s U.S. embassy that officials “cannot ensure safe passage” to the airport.

Within the last 24 hours, about 2,000 people have been evacuated, officials say.

One person is dead after the Taliban violently disperses a rare protest

One person is dead after a protest in eastern Afghanistan ended violently today. Apparently, the incident occurred in Jalalabad as residents lowered the Taliban flag and flew the national flag instead.

That’s when the Taliban struck attendees with batons, and shot their weapons into the air. A local journalist said he was attacked as he tried to report on what he saw.

So far, six people have been wounded.

This comes after the militant organization claimed that things would be different from the last time they were in power.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Taliban fighters apparently patrolled checkpoints at the Kabul airport, where they attacked Afghans trying to enter.

According to Jake Sullivan, America’s national security adviser, the insurgent group had previously said that they would not block access to Hamid Karzai International Airport in the coming weeks.

But what happens if the Taliban doesn’t make good on their word?

A 21-year-old woman is stabbed to death by someone she met online

It should have been a fairy tale. A 21-year-old American woman met a 22-year-old bachelor across the pond. They decided to meet in person, so she got on a plane and they spent six months together.

They should have lived happily ever after.

Instead, she wound up dead.

In a hearing yesterday, Adam Butt plead guilty to manslaughter, though he wouldn’t go as far as to say he murdered the victim, Mary Wells.

Butt is being held in a psychiatric hospital right now.

Wells, who had been living in Philadelphia prior to her ill-fated meet-up, was scheduled to return home in a couple weeks, but she was stabbed to death before she got the chance. She was killed on January 17.

“Mary was so kind and selfless, she would give someone the shirt off her back. Mary was quiet and didn’t ask for much,” loved ones wrote on a crowd-funding page. “Mary had a tough couple years. She lost her mum due to health problems and lost her grandmother, who took care of her after her mum died two years ago.”

How a mysterious baked-bean vandal has been terrorizing this small UK town

Residents in a small United Kingdom town want police to “spill the beans” about the mysterious vandal who has been terrorizing their neighborhood as of late.

Cans of baked beans have been spilt across doorsteps, cars, and even stuffed inside mailboxes, residents report.

Just who is the bandit behind all the vandalism?

Authorities have never bean so unsure.

“The victims are understandably distressed by this unacceptable behavior,” an official said on Facebook.

Authorities say they will be on the lookout for suspicious behavior until the vandal has been apprehended.

And this isn’t the first time baked beans have been deployed to terrorize UK residents. When did this happen before?

Roush, who does not have bond, is due back in court next month.
