Last night, I was at home watching TV. It was around 8:30pm.

 

And all the sudden, my phone is buzzing. Like crazy.  

 

Text messages are coming in… from everywhere.

 

One of them was from one of the most successful hedge fund traders I know. But more about him later.

 

Hmmm… very strange (and unusual).

 

I pick my phone up and instantly see why…

 

Trump tweeted:

My immediate reaction was to check the stock market.

 

And as I expected, the S&P futures plunged almost 30 points.

 

Does that make sense? I asked myself.

 

The answer was no.

Why?

 

Because these are emotional (not rational) reactions.

 

And they usually present big opportunities.

 

I think there will be an opportunity to go long in the market very soon.

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Mueller is in the spotlight… for the last time (I think… ).

He resigned on Wednesday.

And suggested that testifying before Congress would be pointless.

He said, “The report is my testimony.”

Why did Democrats want him to testify?

Well, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) argued most Americans won’t read the report. And they need “to see the movie.”

I think I have something better.

The cliff notes version of the Mueller report:

President Trump has not committed any crime.

And there was NO COLLUSION.

Now, let’s talk about China.

 

President Trump is currently in a trade war with China.

 

He slapped both sanctions and tariffs on Chinese companies.

 

But what if there’s more to the story than meets the eye?

 

Here are the facts.

 

China is the largest mobile market in the world (over 1.2 billion subscribers). And they want to dominate the 5G race. 

 

Their two major 5G players are Huawei and ZTE.

 

Now take a look at this timeline:

 

January 2018

 

A leaked White House memo names Huawei a strategic threat.

 

May 2018

 

The Pentagon bans the sale of Huawei and ZTE phones in stores on military bases.

 

Why?

 

Because the Chinese government could track soldiers’ movements or spy on their communications.

 

August 2018

 

The National Defense Authorization Act prevents government agencies from buying equipment or services from Huawei and ZTE.

 

October 2018

 

Leading U.S. lawmakers urge Canada to bar Huawei from helping build its 5G networks.

 

Why?

 

Because it could pose danger to U.S. networks.

 

December 2018

 

Huawei’s chief financial officer is arrested in Canada at the request of U.S. law enforcement.

 

January 2019

 

The U.S. files criminal charges against Huawei.

 

The allegations?

 

Conspiring to evade U.S. trade sanctions and steal trade secrets.

 

May 15, 2019

 

President Trump signs an executive order banning U.S. telecom firms from using the equipment of “foreign adversaries.”

 

Days later, Google makes a shocking announcement. Google decided to terminate Huawei’s license to the Android OS, which powers all of their phones.

 

I don’t know about you but I see the pattern.

 

This is not just about the trade war. It’s about 5G and a threat to U.S. national security.

 

Why? 

 

Because 5G is sooo important. 

 

Even the liberals agree…

That’s not a typo.

 

It’s true and it’s about 5G.

The article concludes the fear about Huawei 5G network is genuine, and warranted.

 

And I agree.

 

U.S. has to be very vigilant when it comes to matters of national security.

– China is expected to invest ($134 billion – $223 billion) in 5G. And economic value derived from the commercial operations of 5G will reach $3.7 trillion.

 

– A leading financial research firm which charges $15k per year for their research said “The 5G disruptive tide is both seismic and inevitable, ensuring it will be one of the best investment themes in a generation.”

 

Amazing facts.

Today, I’ll continue with my research on 5G.

 

I found something very interesting.

Something I haven’t seen in the mainstream news.

 

Did you know Intel pulled out of the 5G race?

 

It’s shocking but it’s true.

 

And I’m going to tell you about it in our Silicon Valley section below.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – 5G Primer (part 2) 

As 5G rolls out to all of America, the stock market gains could be massive.

But will they be quick?

Some people say 5G is an infrastructure play. And it won’t pay off for a while.

Why?

Because 5G networks need to be build on a higher frequency.

And high frequency waves have a harder time traveling over distance and through objects.

The solution?

5G stations have to be very close to consumers.

To accomplish that, small antennas will pop up all over the place (as close as 500 feet apart).

But I don’t think you have to wait to profit from the 5G revolution.

I think there are opportunities right now.

I’m not an expert but I found someone who I think you should listen to.

He’s an angel investor. He’s put his own money into 111 new projects — and 95.3% of them were successful.

I’m going through his research right now and I will tell you all about it tomorrow.

 

Because there is no room to cover this story in Morning Bullets.

Apple settled their long standing patent dispute with Qualcomm… for at least a whopping $4.5 billion (that’s $4,500,000,000).

 

Why?

 

Because of 5G.

 

Here’s the story:

 

Apple has been exclusively buying Intel’s modems (due to its fight with Qualcomm).

 

But they saw the writing on the wall.

 

And they determined Intel modems wouldn’t be ready in time for a 5G iPhone.

 

So they decided to pony up billions… and make up with Qualcomm.

 

Because Qualcomm’s 5G technology is WAY ahead of the others. (Side note: more than 18 manufacturers have already committed to launching 5G handsets with Qualcomm modems. They also recently announced the industry’s first System-on-Chip (SoC) 5G integrated mobile platform. What does this mean? Qualcomm is far and away the industry leader)

 

Do you know what happened right after the Apple / Qualcomm dispute was settled?

 

Intel dropped out of the 5G race. Just hours after the settlement.  

 

Intel knew they couldn’t compete.

Ian Bremmer (Time Magazine) completely made up a quote from President Trump.

 

Here is what he said (in a now-deleted tweet):

When pressed about the quote’s accuracy, he said the quote was “plausible” and represents the “state of media and the twitterverse today.”

 

Bremmer eventually apologized for fabricating the quote and said:

 

I think he followed the liberal playbook to a T:

 

L.R.A.

 

Or in layman’s terms:

 

Lie -> Retract -> Apologize

 

In a sane world, this guy would be out of a job.

AT&T already spent $700 million on 5G preparations.

 

And Verizon is expected to spend as much as $18 billion in 2019 alone.

 

By 2020, U.S. carriers are expected to spend $2.7 trillion.

CNN is struggling and their ratings are way down.

 

Here are the facts:

 

In April 2019, CNN dropped 26% in prime time compared to the same month last year.

 

It was the lowest-rated month (among total viewers) in nearly four years.

 

And last week CNN lost 34% of its total day viewers (compared to the same week last year).

 

Decline in viewers = lower advertising revenue.

Their goal?

David Letterman has a new show on Netflix.

 

It’s called “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction” and the second season will launch next week.

 

Kanye West was one of the first guests.

 

Letterman didn’t waste any time during the interview. And steered the conversation toward President Trump.

 

But Kanye wasn’t intimidated. Instead, he said Trump voters are “treated like enemies of America.”

 

Letterman then escalated and made his forceful claim against President Trump.

 

Before responding, Kanye took a long pause…

 

And then he asked:

 

“Have you ever been beat up in your high school for wearing the wrong hat?”

 

Letterman fired back asking him who is doing the bulk of the bullying in America right now.

 

And Kanye replied: “Liberals bully people who are Trump supporters!”

Do elections impact the stock market?

 

The answer is YES. They do.

 

And there are many studies about the U.S. Presidential election cycle.

 

But there are none for the other countries around the world.

 

So I did some digging.

 

And I found an article (published by Stocks and Commodities magazine).

 

Their research revealed great insights.

 

And guess who were the best performing countries?

 

The ones going from a left-wing party to a pro-business right-wing party.

 

Surprise, surprise.

 

The researcher went through more than a decade of data.

 

And found ONE pattern that produced more than 60% average returns.

 

It’s very interesting.

 

I’m still digesting it and will tell you more about it on Monday.

Space race is not about the U.S. vs. Russia.

 

It’s about Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

 

Bezos’s company is called Blue Origin.

 

His vision?

 

“A future where millions of people are living and working in space.”

 

His near-term goal is to colonize the moon.

 

On the other hand, Musk’s company is called SpaceX.

 

And his vision is to colonize Mars.

 

Why?

 

As a contingency plan for humanity. And a beacon of inspiration for humankind.

 

SpaceX built Falcon Heavy, the most powerful rocket in the world.

 

It can go to space and come back and land.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Market Rally Continues… But Will It Last? 

I talked about gold yesterday. And I said it will rally over the next several weeks.

The rally kicked off faster than I thought.
 
Gold futures jumped from 1,273.6 (at the open) to 1,287.1 (at the high of the day).

Nice move.

However, the S&P 500 sold off.

Why?

China trade war uncertainty.

What do I think?

I’m sticking with my comments from May 21, 2019.

I said the stock market is trading in a range.  

 

Between 2,800 (support) and 2,950 (resistance).

My strategy is simple:

 

I go long around the support level. And I go short around the resistance level.

 

But I use tight stop losses to protect my capital.

 

Let’s see what happens today.

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Nancy Pelosi had a tense meeting with President Trump.

It ended abruptly. And Pelosi wasn’t pleased.

In fact, she snapped at Kellyanne Conway, White House counselor.

She said:

“I don’t talk to staff. I talk directly to the president.”

I sent you an email titled “Outrage Society” yesterday afternoon.

It was my attempt to dive a bit deeper into a couple of important topics.

 

But the email was a mess…

 

Why?

 

Well… I generally do all the work myself. I do all the research, I write every word and I even set the emails up.

 

But I was busy yesterday and asked my assistant, Brian, to setup the email and send it.

 

He’s new and clearly doesn’t know what he’s doing…

 

Oops… I shouldn’t have said that… he might be reading this right now…

 

On the other hand, he’s a millennial (I think… ). And reading might not be his strong suit.

 

Just kidding. Brian is great. It’s my fault.

 

Anyhoo… sorry about that.

I promise it won’t happen again. You deserve better!

 

Now… let’s dive in.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Hedge Fund Performance 

Hedge Funds are required to file quarterly reports.

 

One of them is called “Form 13F.” And it contains all their equity holdings.

 

Why is it important?

 

Because Form 13Fs are public records. It allows us to see the stocks billionaires buy.

 

I don’t have the time to sift through all the filings.

 

But Goldman Sachs does.

 

And they released their quarterly hedge fund performance tracking analysis a few days ago.

 

By the way, hedge funds had a rough Q4’18. In fact, it was the worst quarter for hedge fund since the financial crisis

 

Let’s see how they did in Q1’19:

 

Much better.

 

The average equity hedge fund has returned +8% so far in 2019.

 

But it’s nothing to brag about. S&P 500 has returned 15% (and charged no fees).

 

Here are the top 10 most-frequent hedge funds holdings:

 

#1 Amazon

#2 Facebook

#3 Microsoft

#4 Google

#5 Alibaba

#6 Netflix

#7 Celgene

#8 Visa

#9 PayPal

#10 Disney

 

Nothing surprising…

 

What IS surprising is something else (on the chart above).

 

Gold.

 

Gold has been “dead” for two years.

 

But I think that’s about to change (at least in the short term).

 

I look at GDX/Gold ratio to find trading opportunities. We don’t have enough time to get into it right now… but… I will tell you about it some other time.

 

The bottom line:

 

I expect gold will be higher several weeks from now than where it is today.

Huh?

 

Believe or not, Amazon is about to pull another win. Over eight Latin American countries.

 

How?

 

ICANN decided to proceed with Amazon’s request. Pending public comments.

 

Amazon will probably win this one… and continue their quest to rule the world…

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

A new Gallup poll is in.

 

The results:

 

43% of Americans think socialism would be a good thing for the U.S.

 

And April’s survey found:

 

47% of Americans say they would vote for a socialist candidate for president.

 

And Democrats currently have a more positive view of socialism than capitalism.

 

And that’s a big shift from a few years ago. They used to favor capitalism much more…
